SimpleTools® Complete Lecture - 8 hrs.
An involving and informative lecture acknowledging and embracing your child’s unique beginning. Karen H. Strange, Midwife, Neonatal Resuscitation Instructor, Pre- and Peri-Natal Psychology Educator offers a workshop concerning babies and children. This lecture will shed new light and give clarity to:
- Therapists, Social Workers, Psychologists and the clients and populations they work with
- Body workers, cranial-sacral therapists, massage therapists, chiropractors, acupuncturists and the clients they see
- Childbirth Educators, Lactation Educators, Pre- and Peri-Natal Psychology Educators and the people they teach
- Birth Professionals and the women they care for
Karen Will Teach:
- The sequence of events that occur spontaneously from labor to baby in arms
- What happens when babies go from inside to outside-the physiology of this critical transition
- How disturbing the physiology of birth impacts the baby, both psychologically and emotionally
- Simple Tools® to help babies and children when things do not go as planned or according to the sequence embedded in birth
Neonatal Transitional Physiology Lecture - 3.5 hrs.
This lecture covers the transition that happens on a physiological level for the baby at birth as it goes from inside to outside. How what happens at birth in terms of the cord matters deeply. Understanding this critical transition is important regardless of where your baby is born.
- Baby’s lungs are fluid filled and at birth need to transition to air-filled.
- This is based on adequate flood volume rather than by respiratory effort to clear the fluid in the lungs
- This explanation focuses on how we adapt at this critical moment of birth and has been happening since the beginning of time. You will learn just why Karen says "birth was set up to work in case no one is there" which is how it was before 100 years ago.
- Physiologic cord closure and how neonatal transition most probably occurs at a normal physiologic birth.
Karen Will Teach:
- With many photos of the process how this transition occurs when left undisturbed
- Several perspectives other than the western medical model are delivered within the lecture.
- How "normal" medical practice of immediate cord clamping impacts the newborn
- How to support physiologic birth in all settings
SimpleTools® - Species Specific Birth Lecture - 6.5 hrs
This lecture covers what happens as the human mammals that we are. Karen holds the question what if we did not always "do" to babies. And again offers the perspective of " what would happen if no one was there".
This lecture covers species specific birth, a perspective of what is embedded in the process of birth for the human mammal. There is a specific set of sequences that occur for both mother and baby at birth. One has to know what the embryological blueprint of this sequence is, in order to understand what is missing when we don't allow it to unfold or when things happen to interrupt with the normal unfoldment at birth. Then Simple Tools are taught to support the integration/healing of what has happened when there has been an interruption for whatever reason.
Another way of saying this is the blueprint follows a set species specific sequences, that all mammals follow. Embedded in the sequence are nature repairs for when things do not go as planned or when an interruption occurs
- Parents with children of any age
- Therapists, Social Workers, Psychologists and the clients the populations they work with
- Body workers, cranial-sacral therapists, massage therapists, chiropractors, acupuncturists and the clients they see
- Childbirth Educators, Lactation Educators, Pre- and Peri-Natal Psychology Educators and the people they teach
- Birth Professionals and the women they care for
Karen Will Teach:
- The sequence of events that occurs spontaneously in the process of birth
- The embryological blueprint of how we come into being
- What he set of sequences are for both mother and baby at birth
- Simple Tools® to help babies and children integrate what has happened at birth planned or not
SimpleTools® Advance Lecture
This lecture summarizes the Simple Tools lecture then goes on to specific understanding of how certain interruptions done at birth home or hospital impact the babies experience and life from that point on.
- What the impact of different interruptions may be on the baby at birth such as: Epidural, pitocin, separation, cesarean, long labor, long pushing stage, resuscitation, suctioning, etc.
- Explanations of all these experiences even though they are no ones "fault"
- Specific tools for supporting the integration of all these experiences
- How babies communicate with us
Custom Tailored Lectures
Understanding the Hormones of Birth: How they work, when they work and what happens when the normal cascade of hormones do not happen. For example in births that have pitocin, epidural, c-section, separations, vacuum, forceps, etc.
