Neonatal Transitional Physiology Lecture - 3.5 hrs.
This lecture covers the transition that happens on a physiological level for the baby at birth as it goes from inside to outside. How what happens at birth in terms of the cord matters deeply. Understanding this critical transition is important regardless of where your baby is born.
- Baby’s lungs are fluid filled and at birth need to transition to air-filled.
- This is based on adequate flood volume rather than by respiratory effort to clear the fluid in the lungs
- This explanation focuses on how we adapt at this critical moment of birth and has been happening since the beginning of time. You will learn just why Karen says "birth was set up to work in case no one is there" which is how it was before 100 years ago.
- Physiologic cord closure and how neonatal transition most probably occurs at a normal physiologic birth.

- With many photos of the process how this transition occurs when left undisturbed
- Several perspectives other than the western medical model are delivered within the lecture.
- How "normal" medical practice of immediate cord clamping impacts the newborn

SimpleTools® - Species Specific Birth Lecture - 6.5 hrs
This lecture covers what happens as the human mammals that we are. Karen holds the question what if we did not always "do" to babies. And again offers the perspective of " what would happen if no one was there".
This lecture covers species specific birth, a perspective of what is embedded in the process of birth for the human mammal. There is a specific set of sequences that occur for both mother and baby at birth. One has to know what the embryological blueprint of this sequence is, in order to understand what is missing when we don't allow it to unfold or when things happen to interrupt with the normal unfoldment at birth. Then Simple Tools are taught to support the integration/healing of what has happened when there has been an interruption for whatever reason.
Another way of saying this is the blueprint follows a set species specific sequences, that all mammals follow. Embedded in the sequence are nature repairs for when things do not go as planned or when an interruption occurs
